Bird Of Prey

Initiation scenario, played with the basic Psy and Genetic squads

Background

Good morning, this is Evalie Echt speaking from the operations bridge of the Python, orbiting around Cassandra V.

The extreme weather conditions of the past few days seem to have influenced the population of Cassandra V.

As I speak, the entire surface of this planet of the Troy system is wracked by popular uprisings. The authorities seem completely overwhelmed. Martial law has been declared and several governments have given full powers to their heads of state.

The discontent seems to be due to the collapse of the local stock exchanges.

Several financial and industrial groups have made redundant a massive percentage of their workforce. They wish to, quote, « streamline » in the hope of weathering this unprecedented crisis.

Riots broke out following a suggestion of requesting « spontaneous solidarity in the form of unpaid labour one day out of two ».

The theocratic opposition party, led by Licius Alvel, immediately supported the « agitators and terrorists ».

Licius Alvel's great prestige in the eye of the working classes dates from his « Miracles of Saints' Square »...

Some believe this charismatic leader owes his powers to his dealings with one of the Corporations linked to the tentacular Consortium, rather than his communion with God...

Plot

Licius Alvel is touring the social uprisings all over the planet to encourage and « support the terrorist leaders ».
He is travelling in an aerolev escorted by two other ships belonging to the Psy faction.

Goal of the (Genetic) attacker:

Intercept Licius Alvel's aerolev and destroy it using a battery of Hydra missiles.
The Genetic team has a satellite transponder and a Sat-Com pointer it can use to synchronize its shots.

Lieutenant Hanner is the only member of the team to know the activation code.
His death means defeat for the genetic team.
If, when all the game's turns are done, the missiles have been shot, the genetic team wins.

Goal of the (Psy) defender:

The Psy faction has a spy within the Genetic operation HQ. They know where the attack will take place.
It sends a hit team to the spot.
To win, the Psy team will have to overpower Lt Hanner.

Deployment

The players cast the die to know which gets to choose his table edge (the highest score wins).

Genetic

The Genetic player deploys first, as he chooses, over the whole playing surface.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

He places his squad as follows:

Special rule :

Concealment: Lt Hanner is hidden in one of the buildings’ basements at the beginning of the game.
He can be spotted by the Telepath, exactly like an Hallucination.

At the 5th turn, Lt Hanner appears physically on the playing surface. He must, at the beginning of the Genetic movement phase, be placed on the ground floor of the building to synchronize his Sat-Com with the satellite and the Hydra ground-to-space missile battery.

Synchronizing his Sat-Com with the satellite is Lt Hanner's absolute priority.
He cannot undertake any other action (no shots or movements for the rest of the game).

He will have to count on his squadmates to watch over his safety.

The Avatara Hallucination is detailed as Lieutenant Ernst Hanner's bodyguard.

It is concealed within a radius of 15 cm around the Lieutenant.

The player notes, as precisely as possible, the position of his figurine on a diagram of the playing surface.

The Metamorph is placed alone, anywhere within the Genetic deployment zone.

The rest of the squad is broken down in teams of two. The figurines in these teams may not be separated by more than 5 cm at the beginning of the game.

The Metamorph and the teams of two must by separated by 20 cm each from the others.

Psy

The Psy player deploys on the two opposite edges of the playing surface (following the normal deployment rules: over a distance equal to twice the Movement of the fastest figurine, and at least 20 cm from any enemy figurine).

The Genetic player plays first.

The game is played in 12 turns.

Set layout

Each player places a building in turn.

The players share out the number of objects/mobile obstacles available and place them as they choose over the playing surface.

The players agree on assigning DLs of 5, 10, 15 to objects/obstacles (if they do not have objects with DL status already assigned).

Conditions of victory

If Lt Hanner survives the 12 turns, the Genetic Player wins. If he doesn't, the Psy player wins the game.

Note: if Lt Hanner is trapped in a time bubble during the Psy's last turn, or if he is targeted for a Levitation of Mental Confusion, the Psy faction wins.
